Peppertint is taking a small, yet deliberate step forward with the development of our Eco-Acetate Collection – purely made from natural components derived from cottonseeds and have undergone tests providing us undisputable data that our composition of acetate is far below other materials’ environmental pollutant count. Other than the use of eco-acetate, our collections also include Stainless Steel and mixed materials, meaning a combination of eco-acetate and stainless steel. All options are hypoallergenic, you’re very welcome.


① Eco-Acetate

Acetate is a premium material that is superior to injection frames, which are generally hollow and very brittle. If you didn’t know, acetate is actually a plant-based plastic called cellulose acetate, and is recognized for its adaptability. We are all for renewable resources here at Peppertint! Acetate is known for its strong, flexible, lightweight and hypoallergenic qualities as well as its material being easy to dye for bold color options and unique patterns.


Why should we use Eco-material? 

It’s not rocket science. Eco materials reduce toxic pollutants that are destructive to our planet, a planet that every single one of us should view as a priority to protect.


The making of traditional acetate and PC lens produces a chemical reaction that releases harmful substances into our environment. This is an issue that is detrimental to the world we live in, and is a completely irresponsible exploitation of the resources that have been generously provided to us by Mother Earth.


While eco materials can solve this problem by reducing those negative impacts of traditional acetate and PC lens production, decrease the environmental damage and protect human health, it is up to companies like us to make these changes by choosing the safest materials, and make a statement for others to follow suit.


Higher Quality, Greater Plasticity 

Eco-acetate frames retain the same advantages as traditionally made acetate in terms of diversity, durability, flexibility, and weight. The level of hardness of our sunglasses made with eco-acetate is much greater than ordinary eyewear products, but is lower than high-density materials traditionally used, which provides a higher variety for designs.

② Stainless Steel 

Of all metal material options for eyewear, stainless steel is a competitive option because of its sleek appearance, strength and durability, as well as affordability in comparison to titanium. Amped with uncompromising variations of designs, it has the benefit of offering a professional, minimalistic look that is desired by many. Although stainless steel lacks in the “memory metal” property that titanium frames do, it is actually much more resilient to plastic frames. Just a few examples of how durable stainless steel is, not that we need to convince you any further, but it was used for the body of the DeLorean sports car, as well as structures and buildings across the world to add a distinctive shine to them.


③ CR-39

Equipped with CR-39 lenses, every pair of Peppertint sunglasses create optimum visual comfort and eye protection from UV rays. CR-39, the Columbia Resin 39, is a plastic polymer material that has excellent optical qualities that make them highly durable and resistant to scratches that glass materials are highly susceptible to. Not only that, CR-39 lenses are lightweight, which also ensures maximum comfort for wearing, plus we’ve got them in anti-reflective (AR) coating.
